Five departments battle 10 acre Liberty brush fire
 

A stiff south wind fanned what was apparently a legal open burn in Liberty Township on Tuesday into a full-fledged brush fire requiring firefighters from five departments to extinguish.

Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Chief Bill Branham told the Chesterton Tribune today that at its peak the brush fire had spread to 10 acres of pasture on C.R. 600N east of Meridian Road.

Benefit for Jim Branham is huge success



 

The benefit that took place on Saturday November 22nd for Jim Branham was a huge success. The final tally of donations, ticket sales and the raffles and 50/50 drawings came to $11,004. The Branham family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support for Jim. Also, thanks to South Haven Fire Dept, Liberty Fire Dept and the Porter County FIST Team for all their help and support.

Benefit for Jim Branham planned for November 22nd, 2008

 

On Saturday, November 22nd, 2008, a benefit will take place at the Elks Lodge #500 in Valparaiso, Indiana to benefit Jim Branham. Jim is currently the Safety Officer for Porter Fire Dept., President of the Porter County Fire Association, Director of the Porter County FIST (Fire Investigation Strike Team), and Former Chief of both South Haven Fire Dept. and Liberty Twp. Fire Dept.

3 Dead in Murder Turned Police Chase Ending in Violent Crash in Porter

 

 

A man suspected in a homicide in Portage early this morning drove his car into a police squad at high speed on U.S. Highway 20 in Porter, killing himself and his 2-year-old son, whom he was holding in his lap at the time, the Indiana State Police said.

Porter Fire Hosts for Fire Prevention Week

For Fire Prevention Week, the Porter Fire Department invited some of the kids from nearby Yost Elementary school to stop by the fire station to learn about fire safety. Between grades K-4, PFD explained the importance of everything from exit drills in the home to stop, drop and roll to approximately 400 children. The kids even got to experience playing on the fire trucks and trying on some firefighting gear. Stay fire safe!

Porter Fire will be hosting Village Street Dance

 

Porter Fire Department will be hosting the Village Street dance on Saturday, July 26th from 8pm to Midnight. The event will take place at The Village Tavern, 128 Lincoln St. in Porter. Delta Straight will provide live music, and all proceeds will go to the Porter Fire Department. Cost is $3 per person or $5 per couple. Police/Fire/EMS get in free with ID.
