PFD Training: The Basics

The first thing that should go through any firefighter's head is safety. In the pictures below, you will see a few of the basic skills that every firefighter must learn and know. How to operate a hose line effectively was learned, practiced, and repeated. A hose line is a firefighter's lifeline. Should something go wrong inside of a structure, a firefighter must know how to get out quickly. Various techniques are shown below like repelling from a window, jumping out a window, and getting out with another person. Using the tools he/she was carrying, the Porter firefighters practiced setting up and safely repelling out of windows. If there is no time to set up, they practiced jumping out onto ladders and sliding down the rails using their hands. Safety ropes were used to ensure no one got hurt during the training.
